چکیده

The electron transfer and specific adsorption of a redox-active molecule are coupled in many important electrode reactions. Herein, we report theoretical framework for the voltammetric discrimination concerted non-concerted mechanisms adsorption-coupled electron-transfer (ACET) In mechanism, an oxidant solution is simultaneously reduced adsorbed to deposit reductant on surface. Tipping the Balance between Concerted versus Sequential Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer.

We use quantized molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the competition between concerted and sequential proton-coupled electron-transfer (PCET) reaction mechanisms in inorganic catalysts. By analyzing reactive nonadiabatic PCET trajectories and computing both concerted and sequential rate constants, we characterize various molecular features that govern inorganic PCET reactions, includi...

Thermodynamics and kinetics of proton-coupled electron transfer: stepwise vs. concerted pathways.

Reactions that involve transfer of an electron and a proton can proceed by stepwise pathways involving initial electron transfer (ET) or initial proton transfer (PT), or by a concerted pathway without an intermediate. The concerted mechanism is termed proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET). Understanding such reactions requires knowledge of the thermodynamics of the possible ET, PT, and PCET s...

Probing concerted proton-electron transfer in phenol-imidazoles.

A series of seven substituted 4,6-di-tert-butyl-2-(4,5-diarylimidazolyl)-phenols have been prepared and characterized, along with two related benzimidazole compounds. X-ray crystal structures of all of the compounds show that the phenol and imidazole rings are close to coplanar and are connected by an intramolecular ArOHN hydrogen bond. One-electron oxidation of these compounds occurs with move...

Proton-coupled electron transfer in the electrocatalysis of CO2 reduction: prediction of sequential vs. concerted pathways using DFT.

Herein we investigate computationally in detail the mechanism of the formation of the carboxylate adduct during the electroreduction of CO2 in water catalysed by cobalt porphyrin complexes. Specifically, we address qualitatively the competition between the concerted and sequential pathways for the proton-coupled electron transfer. We use a simple methodology for accurate computation of the pKa ...

Stepwise vs. concerted pathways in scandium ion-coupled electron transfer from superoxide ion to p-benzoquinone derivatives.

Superoxide ion (O2˙-) forms a stable 1 : 1 complex with scandium hexamethylphosphoric triamide complex [Sc(HMPA)(3)(3+)], which can be detected in solution by ESR spectroscopy. Electron transfer from O2˙- -Sc(HMPA)(3)(3+) complex to a series of p-benzoquinone derivatives occurs, accompanied by binding of Sc(HMPA)(3)(3+) to the corresponding semiquinone radical anion complex to produce the semiq...
